What can candidates expect during their LGV training assessment?

Understanding the process of LGV assessments can make it less daunting and help you perform at your best.

– Theory Test Preparation: You’ll need to pass a theory test, which includes multiple-choice questions and hazard perception. Brush up on the Highway Code, driving essentials, and practice through mock tests. Make sure to allocate time every day to review the material and take practice tests. Building up your knowledge base and confidence will significantly aid in passing this initial stage.

– Practical Driving Skills: You’ll be assessed on various driving skills. This includes coupling and uncoupling the trailer safely, reversing manoeuvres, and showcasing your road safety awareness. Spend plenty of time behind the wheel to get comfortable with the different aspects of handling an LGV.

– Vehicle Safety Checks: Expect to demonstrate your knowledge on vehicle safety inspections. Knowing how to conduct a walk-around check will be crucial. Familiarise yourself with all the checkpoints, and practice performing these checks methodically to ensure you don’t miss anything during the assessment. Understanding the mechanical aspects can also give you an edge.

Remember, preparation is key. Seek support from experienced drivers, utilise online resources, and practice as much as you can. Preparing both mentally and physically will set you up for success. With determination and the right mindset, you’ll do great! We’re always here to provide any support you need, making sure you have the tools to kickstart your LGV career.
